Wasn't even planning this for #mermay2020 but I just happened to be designing a mermaid in the perfect time! I've never painted one before, so I had a lot of fun with this one.

Started with thumbnails :) I chose to combine pieces of 3, 6, and 8.

Next were iterations. Ended up going with the top middle in combo with the top right bust.

Color iterations! I knew I wanted an iridescent look and I really ended up liking the oil-slick look of the middle one. I made gradients to paint in these iridescent/holographic colors.

Final design sketch! The kelp hair didn't end up making it into the illustration as I thought thought it would take away from the focus I wanted.
